Justin Dixon of Suburban Parks tonight won Townsville Cricket’s highest individual award, the Sam Scuderi Medal. The opening bowler polled 23 votes as the best and fairest player as judged by umpires throughout the season. Brothers all-rounder Russell Bagley came second with 15 votes. Sam Scuderi was one of north Queensland’s best ever cricketers, and was considered to be very unlucky not to represent Queensland.
Saints grand final captain Mitchell Burton won the Colt of the Year trophy for the best u21 player for the season. This capped off a big week for Burton who led his team with 6 wickets in their grand final win against Wests.
Newly elected Mayor Jenny Hill attended the presentation night and awarded Dixon with his trophy. Over 80 players, administrators and supporters attended the event as the last act of a long season.
