Queensland cricket teams will again have a Townsville flavour with local players showcasing their abilities in the upcoming national tournaments being played around the country over the coming weeks.
Tony Hampson will captain the Queensland Country Open Men’s team again and will be looking to retain the championship trophy they won last year with their tournament starting this week.
For the first time in the 31-year history of the championships will see an inaugural Women’s division competition to be played. The Queensland Country Women’s Open team will have a strong Townsville flavor with local players Stephanie Baldwin, Meagan Dixon and Steph Egan all looking forward to representing their region, and they will be joining former local player Haidee Birkett who is now based in Brisbane with the Qld Fire Women’s team.
Samantha Dixon will also travelling south as part of the Queensland U18 Girls team who will be playing in the last of the Cricket Australia National Championships – the U18 Girls Championships in Canberra from 13th-19th January.
We wish the players all the best in their upcoming tournaments. It is great to see the recognition received for the hard work that the players like Tony and the ladies put in.
