This weekend sees the culmination of the Townsville Cricket Senior final series with what looks to be exciting and close contests in all grades to be played.
Norths CC have won through to their first final appearance in nearly 20 years, the last time Norths reach the final of the A Grade was back in the 95/96 season. With the underdog tag firmly in their corner, Norths will look to overturn their last meeting with Sub Park back in December round 7, which saw the Sub Parks side outclass the Norths outfit inflicting a heavy defeat. “But finals are a different game where you have to be on your best game otherwise anybody on the day can win” says Peter Fry Townsville Cricket President. “Norths won through after defeating Wests last weekend and we have seen a close competition fought out all season, so at this stage, I would say that Sub Parks would have the edge and be favourites as they have been the form team all year but they know they will have a tough game ahead” said Peter.
In the other grades the 2 form teams in the Reserve grade competition sees Minor Premiers Wests take on Sub Parks, whilst in Third Grade Minor Premiers Saints will take on Sub Parks 1 side. This will be a close fought tussle with both teams losing only 2 games through the regular season. Fourth Grade final sees Brothers Blue make it through from 3rd place to take on the form side in Minor Premiers, Wests, to see if they can overcome the odds to lift the Premiers trophy.
If you are looking to watch some great games of cricket why not drop by to either Tony Ireland Stadium for the A grade final or to Endeavour Park at Murray sports complex where you can find the 3 lower grade games.
