State Championships comes to Townsville

Townsville Cricket will host the U15 Queensland Junior Cricket Intra-State Championships commencing on Monday 15th December through to Friday 19th December. The championships will see 12 teams from all around the state take to the local cricket fields aiming to be crowned State Champions for 2014.

“It has been 10 years since Townsville last hosted a junior state championships” said Peter Fry President of Townsville Cricket “ and we are excited to showcase to the facilities that Townsville has to hold this event” Peter said.

Over 150 young cricketers and administrators will arrive in Townsville over the weekend in preparation to play 5 days of cricket against the best players of their age from around Queensland. The State Championships will see 12 regional teams from all over Queensland play in the week long tournament looking to become State Champions for 2014.

Local team North Qld will go into the tournament looking to make the most of local knowledge and conditions as they take on teams from the Gold Coast, Brisbane North, Wide Bay, Sunshine Coast, Darling Downs, Bayside East & Redlands, Metropolitan West Bris along with teams from Far North, Mackay-Whitsundays and Central Qld in the hope of taking the title.

Young cricketers will also get the opportunity to play on the latest ICC approved venue with Tony Ireland Stadium holding games each day of the tournament. “Tony Ireland Stadium and Townsville Crickets home facilities -Endeavour Park at Murray complex, will hold games each day, and it will be a great  opportunity for many of southern players to experience playing on Tony Ireland” said Peter.

Other games will be played around at other local grounds on alternating days. “We have 6 games per day being played so there will be plenty of great cricket to be watched by many good up and coming young talented cricketers of the future.” “Past Qld Bulls players like Jimmy Maher and Matthew Hayden have all played in Junior State Championships in their junior playing careers.” Said Peter.

It is a great opportunity for local cricket supporters to get out and support the NQ side as it looks to bring home the championships on home turf.

  • MondayThursday   Start – 9:10 am12.40pm; Lunch 12:40 1:20pm; afternoon session 12.40pm4:50 pm
  • Friday – Start – 8:30 am – 12.00 midday;   Lunch 12 to 12:30pm; afternoon session 12.30pm -4 PM
