Queensland Cricket has congratulated the five Queenslanders who will make up a third of the Australian Under-19 squad for next month’s ICC Cricket World Cup in Townsville, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
Gold Coast batsmen Nick Stevens and Sam Hain, Redlands wicket-keeper James Peirson, Warwick fast bowler Mark Steketee and Valley allrounder Jack Wildermuth were named today in the final 15-man Australian squad for the tournament from August 11-26.
And Norths right-arm pace bowler Joshua McLelland is also one of three stand-by players named for the pre-tournament camp in Brisbane later this month and the lead-in series against Pakistan on the Gold Coast at the end of the month.
The squad will be coached by former Queensland Bulls great Stuart Law, who is the new High Performance Coach at Cricket Australia’s Centre of Excellence.
The ICC Under-19 World will be held in Queensland in August with the first matches getting underway on 11 August when Australia will take on rival England at Tony Ireland Stadium (TIS) in Townsville.
Australia’s other group matches are against Nepal (13 August at TIS) and Ireland (14 August at Endeavour Park) before the competition enters the Super League and secondary Plate Championship stage.
The ICC U19 Cricket World Cup final will be played on 26 August at Tony Ireland Stadium.
